How Can A Special Educator Help An ADHD Kid?

24th December 2021

Special education has always been a major lookout in India because we believe that in every child resides The Almighty, hence, every child is unique and special. Working with children having special gifts is a blessing because a special education teacher can discover how talented a gifted child is.

Students with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) have awesome knowledge and skills but the only challenge they face is in the learning process. ADHD courses for teachers guide them to learn special techniques to help ADHD children to concentrate. These are CACHE endorsed courses that follow modern methodologies and scientific strategies, perfectly crafted to guide ADHD kids.

Top 7 ways to help ADHD students to concentrate:

Special educators go through these educational programs to realize the genres where ADHD students are lacking focus and help them accordingly. There are top 5 ways that special tutors implement to help these special kids to concentrate more.

STRESS BALLS:

There are plenty of objects that can be squeezed like Squishy balls, stress balls, koosh balls, hand exercisers, etc. A special educator must make sure that kids use them under their desks so that they do not disturb other students. Filling balloons up with different items (seeds, Play-Doh, flour, etc.) to squish is another fun activity that helped students with special needs to focus more.

STICKY TACK

To keep the hands of the ADHD kids occupied, there are certain objects that teachers use like Silly Putty, Play-Doh, or Sticky Tack.

CHEWABLE NECKLACES:

Chewing gum works great to keep some ADHD students focused. Necklaces with chewable pieces do a marvelous job when the classroom is having a no-gum session. Wrapping airline tubing or rubber bands at the ends of pencils for students to chew is another method to motivate students to concentrate more.

BACKGROUND NOISE:

Many education sectors have found out that ADHD students focus more in presence of background music or noise. Teachers can allow them to listen to music on headphones (as long as it doesn’t interfere with what’s happening in class) and study. It has been observed in multiple cases that ADHD students are gaining focus even by the sound of a fan.

STABILITY BALLS:

To stabilize the minds of students having ADHD, teachers use yoga balls, stability balls, or exercise balls which are quite bouncy. The harmonic motion of those bouncing increases the concentration level of students.

FIDGETS:

Fidgets are small objects that help to occupy the hands of special students. It can be bought online from any e-commerce platform or any local shop. Using objects like beaded bracelets or Rubik’s Cubes also help students to have a good amount of concentration. Flashy objects like fidget spinners can be a distraction to other students so teachers advise not to use those.

FLEXIBLE STUDY LOCATION:

Students don’t like to study daily at their learning desk. If they can work at the windowsill or move from one desk to another, they will be enthusiastic enough to learn better. Having different learning stations can benefit special students in gaining concentration.

Special education teachers, therefore, know the ways to nurture childcare and education. They have the best knowledge to figure out which way-out will be the best for an ADHD kid.
